Objective: Students will be introduced to novel study: A Walk to Remember. Students will be able to begin researching time/context of setting –
W-Up: What is a charity? What types of charities have you taken part in? Why did you take part in these? How did it make you feel?

Introduction of big concepts in new book A Walk to Remember
Set up Lit Circle – 5 Important Jobs…. Assign roles
Introduce Context/Setting of novel – Introduce research project
Time period Study – 1950 America/North Carolina (schools, economy, houses, etc)
Orphanages in 1950’s and today.
Leukemia
High School Plays - What do they require? Vocabulary.
Fund Raising in Cities – How does it work, what forms does it take?
For each research topic area:
Find 2 different sources (not Wikipedia)
Provide a works cited and reference source next to information
Summarize 3 different points of interest about topic

Day 2, Unit 2 Sept. 21, Journal: Write about a time in your life that you made fun of someone else – Explain the circumstance/details – Answer 5 W’s – Who, what, where, when, how and why. Learning Activities: Complete research

Look at the Title – What do you think this book will be about?
Read the back of the cover and also the 1st couple of paragraphs.
Begin to read Chapter 1 Identify literary elements of setting, characters.
HW: Finish reading Chapter 1 and Complete Literary Analysis on Chapter 1 w/assigned roles
W-up: Q and A – Jamie and her Bible – focus correct Q and A formation – Design one question from regarding her bible. – Write a question as a partner to assess - share and discuss

Students will read and dialogue about chapters 8 and 9 using grammatically correct English. Students will be able to gain exposure to new vocabulary on read aloud an assigned chapter - Students will be able to answer questions as assigned
HW - Complete Reading Chapters 8-9 and Journal - Begin questions - Questions will be completed next class.
W-up - correct question/answer format Subject: Jamies Bible - Students will be given question stem and design their question - edit on board - exchange - draft answer on paper and board - write these out/edit

Objective: Students will dialogue about chapter10- 12 using grammatically correct English. Students will be able to show what they know through dramatic play and reflection.
